Key Benefits of a TopNotch Upholstery Cleaning

Upholstery cleaning is one of the most overlooked cleaning tasks in the home. A wide variety of soils which aren’t as commonly found in carpet quickly accumulate on upholstery, including body oils, body dander, cosmetics, hair products, and body sweat – this in addition to food and drink spills! For this reason we like to compare upholstery cleaning to doing the laundry – it’s a material that has frequent and consistent contact with human beings and therefore should be sanitized in a routine basis, both for the longevity of the material and the health of the person. A more attractive and comfortable place for your family and your guests to relax and make themselves at home doesn’t hurt either!

  • Removes Unpleasant Odors

As with your carpets, unsavory odors can become trapped in your furniture’s upholstery, creating an unpleasant aroma throughout your home. If you have tried air fresheners, but your house still doesn’t smell the way you want it to, it could be because of your furniture. Professional upholstery cleaning can extract the sources of these unwanted odors, giving your home a fresh, pleasant smell.

  • Eliminates Stains

Accidental spills can leave stains on the surfaces of your furniture, making them look shabby and uncared for. Eliminating these stains through upholstery cleaning can restore your furniture to its former glory. It can also help brighten dingy fabric, creating a brighter, fresher look. Clean and freshened furniture is also a lot more comfortable!

  • Helps Your Furniture Last Longer

Tiny specks of dirt that get into your furniture wear away at the fibers, weakening the fabric and making it look worn and tattered. Regular upholstery cleaning removes dirty and all kinds of unwanted soils, which in turn can help the fabric stay looking new longer. Couches, recliners and other large pieces of furniture are expensive. It is well worth spending a little bit of money on professional cleaning to protect your investment.

  • Reduces Allergens

Dust mites love to feast on dead skin, and they love to defecate on your upholstery as well! Dust mite feces and a variety of other contaminants such as pollen contain natural allergens. If you or a family member suffers from allergies, regular upholstery cleaning can potentially reduce your symptoms. Even if no one in your immediate family has allergies, keeping indoor allergens to a minimum can make your home more comfortable and inviting for anyone who walks through your door.

Our Upholstery Cleaning Process

Step 1: Pre-inspection

Your cleaning expert will inspect your upholstery to determine type of material, material condition, colorfastness, stains, and overall soiling to achieve the best possible cleaning results.

Step 2: Prepare the work area

We will prepare the work area to protect surrounding furnishings and floors. Drop cloths, furniture barriers, and corner protectors are a few of the tools we use to make sure we are protecting your property while we clean.

Step 3: Pre-vacuum

We will pre-vacuum your furniture including all cushions and pillows in order to remove dry soils. This is in addition to the vacuuming that takes place throughout the entire cleaning process.

Step 4: Pre-treat stains and soiled areas

Next, we apply our all-natural but powerful dirt-emulsifying solution and begin the cleaning process, utilizing the same extraction process we use for your carpets, only with a specialized tool designed for upholstery cleaning and at a lower vacuum setting. We pay attention to pillows as well, as they are often moved around and exposed to soils which the main piece is not.

Step 5: Agitate

We will use a gentle horsehair brush to lightly agitate the solution and work it down into the fibers of the piece. This helps to activate the products and spread them out evenly over the piece. We give them a bit of time to do their work before moving on to extraction.

Step 6: Hot water rinse & vacuum extraction

Once the soil has been broken down, our state-of-the-art truck-mounted hot water extraction process will remove those suspended soils and rinse the fabric clean. Pressure and heat are carefully regulated so that the piece is not over-wet. This step also improves your air quality by removing the pollens, dust mites, and various other pollutants that are trapped in the fibers of your furniture.

Step 7: Speed Dry

If needed, high velocity air movers will be placed in the room to speed dry the upholstery.

Protecting & Deodorizing Your Furniture

The dirt and soils that penetrate into the fibers of your furniture do a lot more than just detract from the beauty of the piece and cause premature wear and damage. They also work to slowly degrade the factory-applied protectant coating that helps it to resist stains and soils.

After your furniture has been cleaned, we can re-apply a fresh coating of high quality yet non-toxic protectant. We apply the protector by spraying it on your furniture after cleaning. It then creates a barrier around the fibers to improve resistance to dry soil and water-based stains, as well as the wear and tear that comes with daily use. We can also apply an effective yet non-toxic furniture deodorizer that neutralizes any odors, eliminating them at their source (rather than just masking them).

More than just sanitizing and improving the comfort appearance of your home, upholstery protectant and deodorizer go a long way toward extending the life of your furniture.
